Impacts of Transportation Networks on the Landscape Patterns—A Case Study of Shanghai

During 1995–2010, a comparison of the comprehensive effects four different types urban roads on landscape diversity in Shanghai was performed. Remote sensing images from 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2010 transfer matrix mathematical model were used to conduct research, which focused studying rule land use change study area over past 15 years. Seven indices (SHDI, SHEI, ED, NP, TE, AWMSI, MSI) also selected analyze pattern three periods explore regularity its dynamic changes influential factors. Buffer analysis statistical analyses applied represent relationship between distance quantitatively (e.g., railway, highway, national provincial highway) series metrics SHDI, PD, IJI) thus exploring influence transportation routes surrounding ecological environment. The results showed that (1) each type changed considerably during research periods, great amount cultivated transformed into construction land, water largely decreased. (2) exerted impacts road more obvious at early stage construction. (3) way highway influenced patch density (PD) index edge (ED) clearly, while railway had greater indices.
